Notes:

Since most cucumber varieties are vines, some sort of support system should be in place prior to planting if you want to save on space.  You could use a fence or trellis to do this.  If space is not an issue in your edible garden then cucumber can be grown on the ground.  The plants will roam where they choose so be prepared. Some cucumbers are dioecious (male and female flowers on different plants), so be sure to also plant a monoecious (male and female flowers on the same plant) variety or ensure that you plant a few male plants (seeds are typically marked in the seed packet).
